Ever heard of “Dry January”?
Some of you are already groaning!
Essentially, the idea is to lay off the alcohol for the month of January. Don’t stop reading…. that’s not the ‘ask’ in this blog!!
The idea behind Dry January is to take a break. This way, you can do something different for a while, whether a month or just a week.
I’m curious -
What if you took this idea of taking a break and applied this to other areas of your life? Like a vacation from TV for a week, a hiatus of fast food, or a money break where you stop all extraneous spending for a set amount of time.
When we take breaks like these, not only do we often improve our health (and maybe our bank account), but we also stretch our brains to think outside of our usual boxes. These “breaks” force us out of our routine and cause the stretching of our brains. We literally change our neurology when we change our routines. We break old synaptic connections and we form new ones – changing the structure and function of our brain.
(spoiler alert – here’s the ask….)
This week, review some areas of your life where you could take a vacation –
such as taking a vacation from junk food, energy drinks, impulse buys, or maybe even booze. Whatever it is, I challenge you to find one thing to “vacation from” and do this for at least one week. And you know, you might find you even like parts of this change…because you deserve it!
