Proactively Watering Your Health

I don’t know about you, but I love plants.

Developing a green thumb is still a work in progress, so by no means am I an expert.  In fact, I want to share with you one of my struggles – waiting until the last minute to water the plants.

We have lots of plants at the office, about 7 indoor plants at home, and a full garden outside.  The outside plants are all on a drip system, so they’re set and get plenty of water.  The indoor plants are a different story…

Plants are pretty simple (and it’s truly miraculous how they work!).  All they need is water, good soil, and light.  That’s it.  And on a week to week basis, all I have to do is water them.  That’s it.

Here’s my challenge – I seem to wait until they’re drooping, wilting, and screaming, “I’m dehydrated!” before I make time to water them.

Definitely not proactive, and this watering method definitely doesn’t allow my plants to flourish.

How often do you do this with your health?

Wait until your body is screaming, “I’m dehydrated!!” or “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired!!” or “I can’t standing being ___________ anymore.”  I know I’ve done it.  Most of us have.  It’s as if our body gives us an ultimatum – do this now or else!

Just like my plants – this method of addressing our health doesn’t allow us to flourish.  Instead of drowning my plants in water every three weeks, they’d be much better off if I watered them a little twice a week.

Just like the plants, we are more apt to flourish when we do a little bit every day.

What is one area of your health which could use a little attention? Perhaps getting to bed a little earlier, or turning off your screens an hour before bed, or drinking 3-4 more glasses of water each day, or taking one opportunity each day to reach for a healthy snack or meal?

Each of us have a different area of health we can work on.  This week, I challenge you to pick one area of your health to gently “water” each day.  You’ll be investing in yourself and more proactive with your health.

I’m reminded of what Buddha says – You, Yourself, more than anyone in the universe, deserve your love and affection!

Just Breathe - It heals SO much!
