Do you ever think about who you spend the most time with?
Ah – catch yourself on this answer…. It’s not who you most enjoy spending time with or who you’d like to spend time with or your fave people in life. It’s a question of quantity – hours. Read it again.
Do you ever think about who you spend the most time with?
As humans living in a social society, we are a compilation of the five people we spend the most time with.
The first time I heard this, it freaked me out. I started thinking about who I spent the most time with and it was the people at work! Holy smokes, I wasn’t sure I really wanted to be a compilation of the people at work! I made a deliberate decision to change who those five people were to ensure they held core values which aligned with mine, they were authentic and quality humans, and they were inspiring and fun to be around! And it didn’t actually mean I changed jobs. I just had to get creative.
You can absolutely manufacture a relationship with someone to have a positive influence on your life.
Here’s what I mean.
Wayne Dyer is a fabulous influence on my life.
I don’t know Wayne personally, in fact he died years ago and I never had the chance to meet him.
There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of hours of audio and video recording of Wayne speaking, motivating, and inspiring people.
I deliberately chose to spend lots of time every week listening to Wayne.
He was one of the five people I spent the most time with each week for years.
I became a better human being because I made Wayne Dyer one of the five people I spent the most time with.
So, who are the five people you spend the most time with?
Are they human beings in your life you interact with? Are they podcast, radio, or TV personalities? And most importantly, what impact are they having on your life and who you are as a human?
If it’s what you want, awesome! If you’re a bit freaked out right now, that’s ok! You have the power to make a deliberate decision of who you want in your life. Action steps: Take stock of the five people you spend the most time with and compare them to the human qualities and characteristics you want to surround yourself with. Then keep your awareness open for the people who come into your life that have the characteristics you want and will uplift you. Then, it’s easy. Make a deliberate decision to spend time with these new people – virtual or live!
We are a compilation of the five people we spend the most time with.
Now, this fascinates me. And I continue to use it as a barometer for who I give my time to and who I let into my life. I deserve it, and so do you.
With Love and Inspiration,
Dr. Michelle
